Great games that run fine on an aging phone
A surprising number of good mobile games don't need a flagship to run well. I tested a batch on a four-year-old phone and some of them barely flinched. Tidecaller Isles in particular ran smoothly and sipped battery, which makes sense for a calm exploration game.
The trick is avoiding anything with heavy 3D worlds or constant online syncing. Stylized 2D games and turn-based titles are almost always safe bets. Arcade games like Coin Strike also tend to run light because the levels are small and contained.
Watch out for games that stream assets constantly — they lag the moment your connection dips and they drain your data. Offline-capable games are a blessing on an older device.
If your phone is struggling, lowering the in-game resolution or disabling background effects usually buys you a smooth experience. Most settings menus hide these options somewhere.
